Evaluation

Originally, I had the role of presenter and scriptwriter. I wrote the script (an unformatted script and a formatted script with camera directions, which I had to change when Kim later changed the unformatted script) and rehearsed my part a few times, but, getting close to the shooting day, I still couldn’t get it right, so my group suggested that I swap job roles with Kim, so that I was on Camera A and Kim was the presenter.

I volunteered to replace Jenni as VT editor after she didn’t want to do it. I then asked not to be the VT editor, because I wasn’t sure how I was going to do one particular VT, but then I volunteered again to be in the role. I’m glad I re-volunteered, because I then figured out how I was going to create the VT’s and had fun animating them. The live action VT ‘plates’ were shot with my Nikon D3100 with my 50mm F/1.8 lens.

I thought I did a good job with the VT’s, especially as everyone was very impressed by them.
I thought I did a good job being on Camera A, though I did make a couple of jerky movements when the vision mixer cut to it a couple of times because I was sometimes taking the opportunity to reframe my shot when the other shots were onscreen.

For Lads and Lasses, I was asked to be the sound mixer, but when Jazmine (on Camera B) realised she wasn’t tall enough to operate the camera, I was asked to swap roles with her. I think I did a good job in the role of Camera B operator.

For the news show, I was asked to be on Camera C. There were only 2 rehearsals before the final shoot, as opposed to the other two productions, which had at least 5 rehearsals.

Overall, I think I did a good job in my roles. I could have completed the VT’s a little earlier though to have allowed more rehearsal time. The questions I made up were very good in my opinion. About half of the questions in the final filmed show were mine and the others were done by Jenni. I could have done more thorough research into my questions, though.
I think I achieved a Distinction because I felt that I performed my roles successfully and skilfully. The show wasn’t hindered in any way because of any mistakes I made.

Week 5

25/03/2014
The news group set up in the studio.
26/03/2014
The Wight Vibe group got ready for filming, then decided they weren't going to film it that day. They rehearsed a couple of times, then it was decided that it was going to be filmed, so it was filmed and it seemed to go smoothly.

Week 4

18/03/2014
I made the other 2 VT's. It was decided at the last second that an end credits sequence was needed and so I made that as well and attached it to the outro. I was praised for my VT work, but I didn't realise how long it would take me to finish them and we were only able to start at around 3:15pm. I also had to redo the general knowledge VT at the last minute when I realised it wasn't usable. We had one rehearsal, then actually filmed it. It mostly went very well, though Kim read a couple of the answers wrong (saying "Martha" instead of Margaret and saying "Barbarian" instead of Bavarian). Kris also cut to the wrong group at the wrong time at the start of the show.

19/03/2014
My group and I organised our folders.

20/03/2014
I rehearsed my camera B movements for Lads and Lasses. That group aren't sure whether they are going to be filming tomorrow or not.

21/03/2014
Lads and Lasses was filmed. The first take went wrong immediately. "Cue presenter" was called out, and as Ellis started to speak, everyone realised that there was an issue with the VT and the vision mixer hadn't yet faded to the studio shot. The recordist stopped the recording. The second take went well and was the final take.

Week 3

11/03/2014
My group and I rehearsed the production, this time with a script. The first time, I messed up quite a few times. Jenni was signalling the points to me with her hands, but I got a little confused with that sometimes. Also, I laughed at some points.
We did a second rehearsal. I was more familiar with the script, so I read it slightly better, but I was still confused with the points. Jenni was writing them down on her arm then showing them to me, but I sometimes couldn't read the tallies she had written down.
After that, Lads and Lasses set up in the studio. I was moved to the role of Camera B for that production and for the news production, I was moved from the role of Sound mixer to Camera C.

12/03/2014
We did another rehearsal. I did it slightly better this time, but there were still issues, so the group asked me if I wanted to swap roles with Kim. I gladly accepted (as I didn't feel I would be able to get it right by the shooting day). I was now on Camera A and Kim was the presenter.
We did another rehearsal. It went slightly better than the previous rehearsals. Kim still made mistakes, but he kept it cool and made it seem more natural.
I started to work on VT's in the Mac room. I also rehearsed my Camera B role for Lads and Lasses. Kris made some music for the VT's.
Jenni gave me her storyboards for the VT's.

17/03/2014
I downloaded a free trial of Adobe Premiere Pro to my computer and made 3 of the VT's at home. For the live action 'plates' (that the animations were laid over in Premiere) I used my Nikon D3100. I put the exported VT's on my memory stick.

Week 2

4/03/2014
I made a floor plan and so did Sam. I came up with the questions.

5/03/2014
Working from mine and Sam's floor plans, the rest of the group came up with a final floor plan. I rehearsed my camera A movements for Lads and Lasses.

6/03/2014
I rehearsed camera movements for Lads and Lasses, taking the place of Jasmine because she wasn't tall enough to move the camera properly. After that, my group and I set up the cameras in the studio. The podiums were left unmoved. I didn't have a script to read off of, so the lines weren't rehearsed, only camera positions. Sam produced a list of rehearsal questions.

7/03/2014
I printed out the questions and Sam printed out his rehearsal questions. They were given to Kim, who cut the practice questions up into small sections of paper. After lunch, we rehearsed in the studio, with a script this time (which I wrote) and a prop (the camera).

Week 1

25/02/2014
We were given the brief and put into our groups. We discussed ideas and came up with an idea to make a quiz show featuring two teams. We decided that James and Lewis should be put together in a group. We also decided to do different topics of questions for the different rounds.

26/02/2014
We decided on our roles in the group and thought about our pitch.

27/02/2014
Sam made a Powerpoint for our pitch. We also decided that Cameron and Ellis would be in the other team.

28/02/2014
My group and I presented the idea to the class.
